He received his PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry at the Paris Val de Marne University (Créteil, France) before joining the Prof. J.M.J. Fréchet’s laboratory at the University of Ottawa (Ontario, Canada). Assistant professor at the Chemistry Faculty of the University of Tunis (Tunisia) (1975-1977) and then R&D engineer (1977-1979), he was named CNRS Research Scientist at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Biopolymers (UMR UPVM/CNRS 27) in Thiais, France. He spent one year (1992) as development project manager at Orsan Company (Lafarge group). In 1995, he joined the European Membrane Institute (IEM, UMR ENSCM / UM2 / CNRS 5635) in Montpellier (France) and became CNRS Senior Scientist (1999).
His main research activities are in the domains of polymer chemistry and physical chemistry for application in functional materials in the form of beads and films. His current topics include the preparation of nanostructured materials and engineered interfaces from the self-assembly of macromolecules with controlled architecture (block copolymers and polyelectrolyte multilayers) with applications in water and wastewater treatment; fabrication of biosourced materials from modified biomacromolecules.
