José Sanchez Marcano is chemical process engineer (1980) from Simon Bolivar University (USB) in Caracas. He obtained his PhD (Doctorat d’Etat en Pétrochimie et Catalyse) from Aix-Marseille University in 1987. Between 1980 and 1982 he has been Assistant Professor on the Materials Science and Engineering Department of the USB and between 1988 and 1990 worked as Operations and Projects Engineer at PEQUIVEN the PDVSA’ petrochemical affiliate. After a Post-doctorate at l’IRCELyon with TOTAL, he joints the CNRS in 1991 as Researcher at LAGEP in Lyon, then at the European Membrane Institute in Montpellier, where he is currently Head Research Scientist. He is co-author 130 peer reviewed papers in International Journals, 12 international patents and has been invited as speaker to 30 international congresses. His current research concerns the modeling and experimental studies of transfer and transport phenomena through membranes coupled or not with a reaction or bioreaction (gas separation, catalytic and bio-catalytic membrane reactors……). He is co-author of two books edited by Wiley: “Catalytic Membrane and Membrane Reactors” (2002), and “Chemical Engineering, Modelling, Simulation and Similitude” (2007). Since 2004 he is member of the International Editorial Board of the Journal of Membrane Science and the l’International Journal of Membrane Science and Technology , he is « guest editor » of the special numbers of Catalysis Today (2012).and of the open-access journal Membranes (2014).
