SUMMARY:Séminaire Guillaume THOMAS - Vendredi 28 Novembre 2025 à 9h30
DESCRIPTION:SEMINAIRE\nDr Guillaume THOMAS\nISL – French-German Research
 Institute of Saint-Louis\nVendredi 28 novembre\n09h30\nSalle de Conférenc
es\n\nBiography:\nGuillaume THOMAS obtained his PHD in 2015 at the Univers
ity of Burgundy (Dijon\, France)\, specializing in the synthesis and funct
ionalization of superparamagnetic iron oxide\nnanoparticles for medical im
aging applications. In 2016\, he conducted postdoctoral research at the CE
A-Grenoble\, where he focused on DNA origami for lithography applications.
He joined then the French-German Institute of Saint-Louis as researcher.
His current research focuses on the detection of chemical warfare agents\,
the mechanistic understanding of flash boiling and evaporation phenomena\
, and the development of innovative energetic materials.\n\nAbstract:\nThi
s seminar will present the recent research activities conducted at the NS3
E laboratory of the French-German Research Institute of Saint-Louis. This
presentation will first introduce the Energetic Materials (EMs)\, which ar
e high-energy compounds designed for rapid release and used in both civils
and military contexts. It will be then explained the imperative to improv
e their energetic performances\, such as detonation velocity and sensitivi
ty\, by developing and using an innovative process of recrystallization (S
pray Flash Evaporation\, SFE). This system allows a fast and continuous pr
oduction of submicrometric EMs with physicochemical properties well differ
ent from raw materials\, paving the way to new innovative nanocomposites.\
nHowever\, the development of this recrystallization process also included
a detailed investigation into the role of spray dynamics on particle size
\, morphology and crystalline structure\, findings that will be presented.
In addition\, the resulting prototypes and derivative applications\, such
as sensors for trace organophosphorous compounds\, are also discussed.
