Department of Chemical Sciences, University of Johannesburg, South Africa
Abstract:
Our research interest at the Electrochemistry Research Group is mainly on the application of electrochemistry to solving challenges in environmental, water, materials and biomedical fields. Our focus includes (but not limited to) the development of electrochemical sensors and biosensors; photo-electrochemical water treatment technologies; materials electrochemistry and nano-electrochemistry.
This seminar presents an overview of our research activities. The following will be highlighted:
Sensors: Exfoliated graphite, dendrimer and nanomaterial based sensors for the detection of toxic metals in water.
Biosensors: Dendrimer supramolecular architecture for the detection of cancer biomarkers, cholesterol, metals etc.
Water treatment: a). Development of heterojunction photoanodes for the removal of organics in water; b) Electrocoagulation and c) Ionic diodes towards desalination.
