Directrice de recherche au CNRS (DR2, section 14) et habilitée à diriger des recherches (HDR) depuis 2007, Sophie TINGRY a débuté sa carrière scientifique par une thèse de Doctorat en Electrochimie à l’Université de Joseph Fourier à Grenoble en 1996. Elle a effectué 2 années de post-doctorat à l’EPFL à Lausanne et au département Chimie-Physique de l’Université d’Uppsala en Suède, suivies d’une année d’ATER à l’Université J. Fourier.
Elle s’est spécialisée dans le domaine de l’électrochimie à la fois pour préparer des matériaux moléculaires par électrosynthèse de polymères conducteurs et pour caractériser des matériaux à propriétés spécifiques. Elle a acquis des compétences en synthèse organique et organométallique, en électrochimie, en électrocatalyse et en physico-chimie.
En octobre 2000, elle a obtenu un poste permanent en tant que chercheur CNRS à l’Institut Européen des Membranes de Montpellier. Son domaine d’activité concerne essentiellement la conception et la caractérisation physico-chimique et électrochimique d’interfaces nanostructurées pour le développement de systèmes électrochimiques innovants. Les projets développés contribuent à la résolution des grands défis sociétaux dans les domaines de l’énergie (production de H2 par électrolyse), de l’environnement (procédé d’oxydation avancée pour la dépollution des eaux), et de la santé (capteurs abiotiques).

Depuis 2021, elle est co-animatrice du département « Interfaces, Physico-chimie et Polymères », et référente « Communication » au sein de l’IEM.
