Researches of the department on the coupling of a membrane process with a sorption process may have an objective of water treatment by process intensification (the membrane allows a high molecular weight compounds removal whereas a sorbent as active carbon enables to remove the micro-pollutants which were not eliminated by the filtration step). The membrane process may also constitute a separative step following the sorption of various pollutants (as dyes, metal ions, organic micropollutants) on natural sorbents (biosorbents as chitosan, olive stones… project ANR PANSKIT in progress) or synthetic ones (functionalized polymers, project ANR COPOTERM in progress).
