Professeur des Universités en section CNU 31, à la Faculté des Sciences de l’Université de Montpellier depuis 2012, Marc CRETIN enseigne plus particulièrement la physico-chimie, après avoir occupé un poste de Maître de Conférences à l’École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier (1998).

Il a obtenu un doctorat en Electrochimie de l’Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble en 1996 à l’issue duquel il a travaillé comme chercheur au laboratoire de Chimie Analytique et Biophysicochimie de l’Environnement de l’Université de Genève (1996-1998). Ces recherches sont actuellement orientées sur les systèmes électrochimiques pour le traitement de l’eau et plus particulièrement sur la mise au point d’interfaces électrochimiques efficaces pour l’électrocatalyse dans des systèmes d’oxydation anodique ou de type électro-Fenton pour l’élimination de micropolluants émergents.

Il est par ailleurs, depuis janvier 2023, directeur de l’école doctorale Sciences Chimiques Balard de l’Université de Montpellier.
