The department of Membrane Processes Engineering (head: Catherine Faur) is composed of 15 permanent staff (1 DR-10, 5 PR-62, 3 ass. PR-HDR-62 et 6 ass. PR-62), 20 PhD students et 2 post-doctorates. Two main topics concern the project:
-1. Process intensification: membrane separation processes coupled or not with a biological, enzymatic, chemical, photochemical or physicochemical process.
-2. Materials engineering: optimization of materials production processes in order to control the morphology, texture and membrane properties.
This global and multi – scale approach of membrane materials and processes which concerns the optimization from materials manufacturing to separative processes considering industrial applications, constitute our originality at national and international level.
More specifically, the application area of the developed processes concern water treatment (the MPE department constitutes the main research group on water treatment in the region Languedoc-Roussillon), synthesis and separation of high added-value compounds (are of food and biotechnologies) and gas treatment and separation.
